Working With Families
Experiencing Financial Poverty

Training Time: 2 hrs.
Description: In this training, we work to reframe ideas about poverty, the narratives around those experiencing poverty, and our approach to assisting those families.
Content Covered: Hidden Class Rules, Narrative around poverty, Poverty simulation, Self-determination, Dignity, Relationships, Hierarchy of needs

Racial Equity-Dialogue and Decision Making

Training Time: 2 hrs.
Description: In this training, we will discuss the difference between equality and equity, how we can communicate effectively with families across lines of race, culture, and class, and how our backgrounds affect who we are.
Content Covered: Racial equity, implicit bias, colonial thought, Colorism, Paternalism, Grace, Cultural humility

Codependency

Training Time: 1 hr.

Description: We will discuss how codependency affects relationships and how we can help families to unlearn patterns of behavior that can lead to unhealthy relationships. We can also take these tools into our own lives to examine our relationships with those around us.
Content Covered: Codependency, healthy boundaries, self-care, realistic expectations, the art of saying no

Self-Care Workshop

Training Time: 3 hrs.

Description: This workshop teaches participants the importance of self-care, the difference between self-care and self-soothing, and techniques for use alone or with clients.
Content Covered: Self-Care, Self-soothing, the biology of care, Meditation, Mindfulness

Motivational Interviewing

Training Time: 1 hr.

Description: Using the OARS technique, this training helps new practitioners learn about, understand, and practice Motivational Interviewing.
Content Covered: MI, OARS, Reflective Listening, Communication

ABCDEquity

Training Time: 1.5 hrs.

Description: This training discusses the importance of an equitable and justice-centered approach to Asset-Based Community Development.
Content Covered: Unconscious Bias, Systemic Racism, Equity, Privilege, Paternalism

Like a Good Neighbor, Learn and Prepare
A DEI Training

Training Time: 6 hrs. (also available in a 2-hour session)
Description: This training embraces ABCD principals using a DEI (and JEDI) lens, so we embrace our neighbors in an open and welcoming manner with curiosity instead of judgment.
Content Covered: Racism, DEI, Justice, embracing complex stories, Leadership, Paternalism, Privilege, Authentic DEI approach, Create a plan.

Sacred Space: Understanding the
Impact of Trauma

Training Time: 6 hrs.
Description:
Become a trauma-informed church/community and explore the role of trauma in the life of the church, the congregation, and the community.
Content Covered:
● Reframe the definition of trauma.
● Review scriptural teachings offering a reflection on trauma.
● Explore the role of trauma in the life of the church, congregation, and community.
● Recognize the core elements of being trauma informed.
● Evaluate current ministry capacity to support healing from trauma.
● Recognize tools for building relationships across dividing lines.

Liberating Communication

Building listening skills, validation, and boundaries for volunteers, staff, and churches

Training Time: 3-3.5 hrs.

Description: What do we really mean when we refer to something as racist? How might we be tokenizing individuals in our organizations? In this training, we discuss common terms related to social identity and beyond, as well as look at the biases that exist in our everyday language. We explore the roots of some of our problematic communication issues as well as how to remedy these issues.
Content Covered: Cross-cultural communication, social Identity, various communication styles

Racial Wealth Gap Learning Simulation

Training Time: 2 hrs.
Description:
African Americans are one of the largest groups in the US who experience financial poverty. Through this exercise, participants will begin to understand that the systems we live in have been created to keep African Americans in poverty and out of positions of power.
